Every time we eat, (particularly carbohydrates), insulin helps move glucose out of the bloodstream and into our cells where it can be used for energy. When this system is working well, our cells receive the fuel they need and energy levels tend to stay fairly steady.
However, diets high in refined carbohydrates, sugary drinks and ultra-processed foods can push this system too hard. Frequent blood sugar spikes mean insulin has to work overtime to keep things under control.
Over time, cells can become less responsive to insulin, meaning the body has to produce more of it to do the same job. When fuel can’t move efficiently into cells, the result can be that frustrating combination of feeling tired, hungry and craving quick energy, even when you’ve eaten recently.

Even if you’re eating well, the body still needs to break down food properly, and absorb nutrients before they can be used for energy.
The digestive system helps turn the food we eat into the vitamins, minerals and nutrients the body needs to keep those cellular batteries running.
